  3. My introduction to manga happened many years ago as a student in Japan. I used Japanese Manga as a learning aid to the Japanese language. I used then the famous work of Shirato Sanpei like Kamui Gaiden and Sasuke. Many years later I still go back and reread them. A strange coincidence was that I was introduced to Japanese manga as a tool by a Korean exchange student who was a classmate way back then. As to your question there was at one time a series called "Classic Comics" which took great works of world literature and transformed them into comic books. Perhaps they are still around.

  4. I can understand a lot of your frustrations and I grew up reading many comics. I really got into them in my teens. I read all my brother's 70's and 80's batmans and they became my favorite era for the character. I liked Superman and the Wolverine Title. I loved Lone Wolf and Cub. I did not have the funds to really buy a new issue of a title every month, and I wasn't too interested in comics that way. But I loved Graphic Novels. I used to have so many Batman ones. I've since sold a lot of them and gave them to others.

I also hate when you get beautiful cover art and garbage drawing inside. I get frustrated too when the writers try to cram so much dialogue and do major info dumps in one thought bubble. But I suggest if you still want to read comics, stick with graphic novels. They tell one full story in one or 2 issues. I loved the Batman Elseworlds series which put Batman as a character in the past who met notable figures in history. I don't read none of that any more, I felt comics took a turn for the worse, they're extremely dark and violent and the superheroes are becoming so mopey and anti-hero.
